ANCHORAGE TEACHERS CHOSEN AS STATE FINALISTS
FOR PRESIDENTIAL TEACHING AWARD

Kelly Auer (East High School, Anchorage); Heather Bascom (Romig Middle School, Anchorage); Jennifer Childress (A.J. Dimond High School, Anchorage); and Jaymee Keith (Eagle River High School, Eagle River) have been selected as Alaska State Finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) in Science for 2017.

They are now eligible to receive a PAEMST award, the nation’s highest honor for U.S. K-12 mathematics and science teachers. The awards program is administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of The White House.

Commonalities among PAEMST awardees have been shown to include devoting more time to professional development, incorporating innovative approaches into their classroom teaching, and using technological resources in their classrooms. State Finalists were chosen from applicants from around the state. As a State Finalist, they will be recognized at the Alaska Math Science Conference in Fairbanks, in the fall of 2017.  www.2017AKCrosscontentconference.org
